As a photographer, I’ve had opportunities to exercise my creativity in places that aren’t necessarily close to home. It’s an exciting experience to photograph a client in a new location and play with new backdrops and angles. Recently, I embarked on a windy senior session in Panama City Beach that challenged our ideas but also added elements of fun and the unexpected to our plans. Even if there are challenges, there are incredible benefits to a travel senior session, and it might just be the perfect choice for you!

Whether it’s golden sand, majestic mountains, or towering cityscapes, sometimes it’s worth it to venture out for that dramatic backdrop you are wanting. A travel senior portrait session allows you to push outside the traditional or common locations to express your personality and vision. For Katherine’s session we traveled to Panama City Beach, Florida for the sand and ocean, but found a lot more!

Perfectly Imperfect Wind – During our session, the wind became our unexpected ally. The movement created by the wind coming off of passing storms and earlier tornado watches tousled hair and whipped dress layers giving us a playful, candid look that’s harder to get in studio situations. Katherine had a great attitude and played to the gusts that would not allow for perfect hair and clothing.

Capturing Unique Moments – A travel session offers a variety of lighting, landscapes, and looks because my theory is to get the most out of our time. Because we had to stay overnight, we were able to shoot at sunset and in the morning hours. In a new location you look for more and more possibilities for variety to make the most out of the trip. From wind whipping sunsets to locations like murals and bookstores, we created a narrative that told as much as we could about who Katherine is in this capstone year.
