Senior Photography is a creative, adventurous joy. I want to tell a story that I share with mommas when we are talking about how every kid’s graduation affects you differently. When my first daughter was graduating, I was taking it all in stride. I was excited and happy. I was proud of her, and enjoying all the fun (and stress) of her senior year. Now, Bre is the oldest of 5, and my next graduate was going to be the next year. I had 4 more to plan for for the next school year, one was about to start driving, one was about to START school. My brain had a lot to spin on. That year I took formal senior portraits for our home school group – the ones with the drape and pearls. I was editing those and when my baby’s portrait popped up on my screen in that quintessential senior portrait, it grabbed me in the throat! That was my moment. I realized this was the last baby picture. The last one before she was an official adult and started making adult and life changing decisions. It was then that I realized how much I wanted to preserve of that year. We had a great time doing her senior portraits in flowers and architecture around town, and going on a senior trip, and doing “last” things together as a nucleus family. I don’t want to sound so dramatic talking about “last” things, but when they fly that nest, there are just no guarantees that schedules will match up and they will be available anytime we want them.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I am a firm believer in documenting milestones. It’s what drove me to hone my photography skills. I did whatever I had to to get those first year plans and take a family picture every year. Things changed often and quickly. Milestones can be births, starting school, braces being removed, getting a new sibling or even a pet, starting high school, graduation, weddings, and the cycle starts all over again with even more and new milestones. I think that your child graduating from high school, and possibly moving from home, is a milestone to show who they are right now. Who your baby has grown into, what his or her hobbies are, where they spend their time, is worth documenting. It’s worth investing in. Let’s tell their story.
From the first baby picture to the last, I want to tell your family’s story beautifully and authentically.
