Atlanta Midtown Senior Session

Thanks for coming to check out this epic senior session! I gotta tell ya, this one is pretty special to me because it’s my own. The Daniel Den is graduating our first boy senior, and I am really proud of this guy. He has had to wrestle out his own path and I have seen growth and victory come from his efforts! Guy Senior Sessions are typically on the shorter side. After all, they are doing it for Mom and having their portrait made – dressing up, having to change clothes, give up an evening to smile on command – is never really high on the “Boy, I can’t wait” list. (Btw, I have some great tips for overcoming some of those points!)

About a month ago, a friend and I went on a birthday date to downtown Atlanta to check out some new restaurants and areas and see what was going on on the Beltline. I sent Jadon a picture of the graffiti we were passing on the walk way and told him I wanted to take him there for his senior portraits. He was agreeable. It looked cool to him and the seed was planted. One of those tips for making really any senior session fun is to bring a friend! Jadon and Micah are forced friends because Jadon’s sister married Micah’s brother, but they have truly hit it off and enjoy getting to spend time together. Micah’s mom and I thought it would be fun for us to have a friend too, so we collaborated to take these boys to the ATL together and make an afternoon of it!

We started on their family farm for some nature shots and then hopped in the car. We wanted to get the best bang for our buck so we had 3 goals. The Beltline, a skyline, and the top of Ponce City Market at Skyline Park. Tips for portrait shoots in Atlanta?

  1. Wear good shoes!
  2. Have a specific plan
  3. Have plenty of time!

It kinda takes forever to get places. One thing we didn’t account for is when you get to a place you have to find the parking deck, get a ticket and parking space, get out of the parking deck, walk to your destination, take the shots, walk back to the parking deck, find the car, get out of the parking deck, and drive to the next location, just to start all over again! And don’t forget wardrobe changes! It takes more time than you (I!) think it will!

These guys were troopers!! No complaints, lots of smiles, and totally agreeable. By the end of the night, after we had exhausted all of our light, and we were going back to the car for the last time. I let them know that I was so impressed because I had hit the wall!! When you outlast the photographer, you’ve done really well! Enjoy some peeks at Jadon’s side of their adventure, and Micah’s will be coming soon!
